BST launches in-vehicle fanless computer for rugged road applications

Electronic component supplier, Backplane Systems Technology (BST), has unveiled its POC-351VTC series of ultra-compact fanless in-vehicle communication gateway controllers, complete with Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), PoE+ and isolated CAN.

The POC-351VTC is powered by an Intel Atom Apollo Lake E3950 quad-core processor, according to BST, and combines finesse performance, extraordinary reliability, and an affordable price tag for versatility in any number of possible in-vehicle applications.

“Truly compact, the POC-351VTC fits in tight spaces and stays out of the way with its mere 56mm (W) x 153mm (H) x 108mm (D) rugged chassis – small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the POC-351CTV is ideal for a range of space-limited installations such as railways, trucks, and buses,” BST said in a statement.

The POC-351VTC features two PoE+ ports to power devices such as IP cameras and one additional GbE port for data communication as well as an isolated CAN 2.0 port and RS-232/422/485 ports for communicating with vehicle CAN bus systems, individual ECUs, or other automotive devices. Its wide-range DC input and ignition power control makes the POC-351VTC fit for most vehicle categories.

Wireless and internet access is essential for modern in-vehicle applications, according to BST. “The POC-351VTC has a total of four M.2/mPCIe sockets and six antenna holes to accommodate a variety of 4G, 3G, WiFi, and GPS modules for in-vehicle and V2V (vehicle to vehicle) communications. Finally, an aluminium heat-spreader is thoughtfully placed on the PC's underside to dissipate heat and maintain superior operating stability, with guaranteed 100 per cent CPU loading in temperatures ranging between -25°C and 70°C.”
