NEW South Wales police have praised truck drivers who created a "rolling roadblock" to stop a driver from dangerous driving.

Drivers reported a Toyota Utility being driven south along the M1 Pacific Motorway towards Sydney just after midnight on May 7 that was allegedly "drifting across all three lanes at times and had its hazard lights activated".

Near the RMS Heavy Vehicle Inspection Station at Mt White, police said truck drivers who were so concerned with the manner of driving of the vehicle, caused a rolling road block and directed the vehicle to enter the weighbridge, where other motorists caused it to stop.

Those members of the public held the driver, a 31-year-old male electrician from Gorokan on the Central Coast until the arrival of police.

Police will allege the driver appeared well effected by intoxicating liquor and he failed a roadside breath test.

He admitted to consuming a number of schooners of beer a local club and a number of spirits the previous evening.

He was taken to the Gosford Police Station where at 1.35am he submitted to a breath analysis giving a reading of 0.208.

His unrestricted licence was seized and suspended by police.

Due to his level of intoxication he was given bail not to occupy the seat of a motor vehicle and is to appear before Gosford Local Court on June 19, 2019
