Virtually every type of truck on Aus roads on show

A FEW kilometres away from all the slick new trucks and equipment on display at the 2019 Brisbane Truck Show, Australia's transport history was celebrated recently in the nearby suburb of Rocklea.

Across the weekend of May 18 and 19, the Rocklea Showgrounds played host to the Heritage Truck Association's annual show, with trucks and equipment from a wide area exhibited.

With more than 180 trucks and associated equipment on display, the event is the highlight of the year for the HTA, which was formed in 2002.

Virtually every brand of truck that has graced Australia's roads over the past century were on display, from a very rare H67 Mack through to a Queensland-built Leader from the early 1980s, along with a variety of Internationals, Kenworths, and Volvos to name a few. More than 2000 people passed through the gates over the two days of the event.

HTA membership officer Michelle Wilkie said the event had grown year-on-year, with the interest in historical trucks and equipment growing.

"Our association promotes the heritage of vehicles over 30 years of age and it's a great club to be involved with, as can be seen by the turnout today,” she said.

"We used to have the show at the Beenleigh Showgrounds but it has just expanded each year and it's just great to see this turnout of vehicles. It's jam-packed out on the oval.”

A unique aspect of the event was the grand parade of vehicles, with HTA president Trevor Davies working the microphone, giving a history of each truck on its way around the perimeter of the showgrounds to an appreciative audience.

"This is our main event for the year. We attend other clubs' rallies and get-togethers throughout the year. For example, we all get together and head down to Wauchope to support their truck show. We do what we can as they come here to support us,” Michelle said.
