Truck driver loses licence after bizarre low speed chase

User Rating: / 0

A LOW-SPEED chase through Robina has cost a truck driver his job, his licence for two years and $5,500.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported Scott Seaton Simmonds this morning pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court to one count of evading police.

The court was told police were conducting traffic patrols on Robina Parkway when they spotted Simmonds speeding about 4.20pm on January 27.

The court was told Simmonds was driving at the 60km/hr speed limit but refused to stop despite police signalling him to with lights and sirens.

Magistrate Mark Howden described the matter as "somewhat unusual" because Simmonds had stuck to the speed limit once police tried to stop him.

Mr Howden fined Simmonds the minimum amount of $5500 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
