User Rating: / 0

Two men in their 20s had a seemingly miraculous escape yesterday morning when the Kenworth truck they were in crashed and rolled, crushing the cabin.

The crash happened about 8.15am as the truck was approaching the Calwell turn-off from the south on the Monaro Highway. Police said reports were received that the driver of the truck sounded his horn to alert other drivers something was amiss as he approached the roundabout.

The truck rolled after careering through the roundabout, partially spilling its load of potatoes on to the highway.

The two men in the vehicle pulled themselves free and were treated by ACT intensive care paramedics at the scene before being taken to Canberra Hospital with minor injuries.

Both were discharged by late afternoon, according to a hospital spokesman.

An ACT Fire Brigade Hazmat truck attended to ensure fuel did not contaminate an adjoining nature strip. One lane of the highway was closed until 9.45am.
